Our charming town of Boerne and Kendall County are both in the path of the upcoming total Solar Eclipse on April 8, 2024. They are projecting that there will be thousands of viewers coming to watch the eclipse. For over two years, planning has been underway by the City of Boerne, Kendall County, and various agencies to ensure this event is safe and enjoyed by everyone.
Timing
The eclipse will last approximately two and a half hours. However totality, when the moon fully covers the sun, will last a mere 4 minutes and 23 seconds.
- Eclipse begins: 12:14 PM
- Totality: 1:32 PM to 1:36 PM
- Eclipse ends: 2:55 PM
Boerne Locals
If you live in Boerne, you are lucky to have a front row seat. You can simply step outside with your proper eye protection, and watch it from the comfort of your home. However, the City of Boerne does recommend preparation leading up to the eclipse. Here are a few things Boerne local residents should consider:
- Check your schedule – With an expected influx of visitors, and some local businesses closing for the day, it might be wise to reschedule any appointments or meetings planned for April 8th.
- Grocery Shopping: To avoid crowded stores, consider stocking up on groceries and essentials well before the event, ideally by the previous week, to ensure you have enough supplies through at least April 9th.
- Gas – Filling your vehicle with gas before Friday, April 5th, is recommended to avoid long lines at the pump.
- Cash – With potential network connection affecting digital transactions, withdrawing cash before Friday, April 5th, is encouraged.
Also remember, Boerne ISD will be closed for students and staff on Monday, April 8, 2024.
